America Needs to Bless God Before God Will Bless America!

My heart becomes heavy and filled with sadness when I see a bumper sticker or a car tag that says “God Bless America”.  I see these words used so lightly and I think to myself, “God, what are your thoughts when You see people asking You to bless our wonderful country?”  Thoughts go through my mind like God has,  is, and will bless the United States of America when the USA turns to God and lifts blessings to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Only when we as a people of this great nation turn from our sinful ways and take Him by the hand and walk with Him daily.

This country was blessed by God the very moment that the pilgrims set foot on this land called America.  This country was built on the foundation that it was “One nation, under God……”  On September 17, 1796, George Washington, our first President, said “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without GOD and the Bible.”  Abraham Lincoln depended on the power of prayer.  During the dark days of the Civil War, he served as a compassionate and resolute president.  Depression and mental pain were his frequent companions.  Yet the terrible emotional suffering he endured drove him to receive Jesus Christ by faith.  Lincoln said, “When I left Springfield, I asked people to pray for me; I was not a Christian.  When I buried my son, the severest trial of my life, I was not a Christian.  But when I saw the graves of thousands of our soldiers, I then and there concentrated myself to Christ.  I do love Jesus.”  Thomas Jefferson said “The reason that Christianity is the best friend of Government is because Christianity is the only religion that changes the heart.”

It is written on our money “In God We Trust” but do we believe that?  If we truly believe that we trust in God then why is our government banning prayer in schools?  Why are people wanting to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency?  Why are we allowing gays and lesbians to openly show their affections in public?  Why do we not take a stronger stand against the destruction of the unborn fetus?  Why do we go to Church on Easter Sunday and at Christmas because it is just something we should do?  Why is pornography and spousal and child abuse rampant in this country?  Why is murder, robbery and adultery spreading like wildfire?  Why is divorce tearing families apart?  My dear friends, if you think about these questions, are you surprised that God may be withholding His blessings from this country?  I’m not surprised.  God’s Word says “Righteousness Exalts a Nation”.  Click here Proverbs 14:34

God wants us to seek Him with all of our hearts.  Jeremiah 29:11-13  says:  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Friends, God has blessings in store for this great nation.  He is not withholding blessings.  He wants us to turn from our wicked ways and seek Him with all of our hearts.  Click here to see the complete scripture 1 Samuel 2:30.  God says “I will honor those who honor me.”

I would suggest that America must Bless God.  Please click on Exodus 20:1-17.  This is a clear picture of how we as individuals and as a nation can begin to honor and Bless God.  As you read these Ten Commandments ask yourself what you can do to honor God.  Click here to see what God did for you and me.  John 3:16   We can surely Bless Him.

Come on America let’s Bless God and let’s see how God will Bless America.

April 28, 2008 Update on this article:   Dr. Charles Stanley of First Baptist Church of Atlanta sheds light on Blessings from GOD.

“God bless you!”  We hear it all the time.  A pastor may include it in his benediction or you may hear it when someone sneezes.  Dr. Stanley tells us to stop and think about what the phrase “God Bless You” means.  In Genesis 12, God’s commission of Abram shows His wonderful promise to make man into a great nation and give him a great and enduring name.  When the Lord speaks about blessing someone, it’s a promise to intervene in that individual’s life in a mighty, obvious way.  Please do not overlook two important conditions for the Lord’s favor.  From Abram’s life, we see that God values obedience and faith.  God wants to bring abundance in our lives and in our nation.  Let’s be sure His blessings aren’t being hindered.
